The Bouncing Souls - Kids And Heroes

This is, without question, my favorite song by The Bouncing Souls. It accurately describes why I love the band as much as I do. "Kids And Heroes" is about how you grow up idolizing these people, whether political, musicians, actors, whatever, then you grow up to realize these heroes of yours aren’t the majestic beings you’d hoped they were. It sums up that feeling you get when you transition from adoring them to realizing that you can be your own hero.

Personally, when I hear this song, it just makes me thankful that my heroes are still the amazing people I grew up hoping they would be. I’m talking of course about my favorite band, The Bouncing Souls. Their music has helped put a smile on my face and made me an overall more positive person, and getting to know them has only increased that love and belief in myself.

“Kids And Heroes” appears on Anchors Aweigh, released by Epitaph Records in 2003.

Lyrics:

Hey, where have you gone?
You used to be the one that we looked up to
Seemed like nothing could break you down
How high was your price, an was it worth it?
Nothing in life is a sure bet anyway
You’re gone
Guess you weren’t here from the start
In the end, it’s all a question of heart.

Hey, where have you gone?
You used to be the one that we looked up to
Seemed like nothing could break you down
How high was the price?
And was it worth it?
Nothing in life is a sure bet anyway
You’re gone
I guess you weren’t here from the start
In the end, it’s all a question of heart

Hey, where did it go?
Everything we fought for, and everything it meant?
Maybe we were just naive
But I still believe there are only a few things that really belong to me.
Who I am, who I was, and who I wanna be.
Who I wanna be

Hey, where have I gone?
I used to be the one looking for the hero
In some far off place
Blindly ever forward
Never knowing all along
The truth was right here in my own song
